KKN Gurugram Desk | The Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is nearing its conclusion as devotees flock to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj for the final “Snan” (holy dip) on Maha Shivaratri. This auspicious event is marking the culmination of the 45-day festival, which has seen an unprecedented number of participants from across the globe.

As of 6:00 AM on February 26, 2025, over 40 lakh devotees had already taken their holy dips in the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. With this, the total number of devotees who have participated in the ritual has crossed an astounding 65 crore. The turnout for this year’s Maha Kumbh is remarkable, drawing millions of people seeking spiritual purification and blessings on Maha Shivaratri, a day dedicated to Lord Shiva.

CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vigilant Monitoring of the Event

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been actively overseeing the arrangements for the final day of the Maha Kumbh. On Maha Shivaratri, which marks the last “Amrit Snan” (holy dip) of the Kumbh, the Chief Minister’s focus was on ensuring the safety and smooth functioning of the event. He started his day early at the Gorakhnath Temple’s control room in Gorakhpur, monitoring the live feeds of the crowds and the ongoing ritual. CM Yogi has been in constant communication with administrative officials to ensure that the pilgrims’ experience remains hassle-free and secure.

From the control room, CM Yogi closely observed the large crowds, the management of public facilities, and the arrangements. His instructions were clear: ensuring the safety of devotees and smooth transportation to and from the Triveni Sangam. With millions of people participating, the importance of effective traffic management and crowd control cannot be overstated. The state has made significant efforts to ensure that all aspects of the event run smoothly, from cleanliness to emergency facilities.

Record-Breaking Devotee Turnout at Triveni Sangam

As the sun rose on February 26, Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam witnessed a massive influx of devotees, all eager to take part in the final “Snan.” The event has attracted people not only from different parts of India but from several countries, all coming together to witness this sacred tradition. The Triveni Sangam, believed to be the meeting point of three rivers, is considered a powerful place for spiritual cleansing.

The crowds have been pouring in throughout the day, and by 6:00 AM, over 40 lakh devotees had already performed the ritual bath. The Kumbh Mela’s final day coincides with the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri, a day that holds immense significance for Hindus, particularly those who follow Lord Shiva. The crowd numbers have steadily increased, surpassing expectations and reinforcing the event’s spiritual and cultural importance.

Flower Petals Showered on Devotees at the Triveni Sangam

Adding to the grandeur of the event, flower petals have been showered upon devotees as they take their final dip in the holy waters. This gesture symbolizes the collective blessings of the divine, offering a warm and spiritual welcome to the millions participating in the last “Snan” of the Maha Kumbh. The scene at the Triveni Sangam is nothing short of breathtaking, with a sea of people gathered in devotion, while colorful petals down on them from above.

The atmosphere at the Triveni Sangam is one of both celebration and reverence. Devotees, many of whom travel for days or even weeks to reach this sacred destination, are seen immersed in their prayers, while security personnel and volunteers ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Maha Kumbh 2025: A Record-Breaking Affair

This year’s Maha Kumbh Mela has already set several records. As of February 26, the total number of devotees who have taken part in the Snan rituals has crossed 65 crore, surpassing all previous records. The last time such a high turnout was recorded was in the 2019 Kumbh Mela, but the participation this year has far exceeded expectations, especially on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

The extraordinary attendance at the Maha Kumbh Mela speaks to the enduring power of this spiritual gathering, which draws millions every 12 years. Pilgrims from across India and the world gather to partake in this once-in-a-lifetime experience, hoping for divine blessings and spiritual purification.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Continued Efforts to Ensure Smooth Operations

As the final day of the Maha Kumbh approaches, CM Yogi Adityanath continues his diligent monitoring of the event from the control room at the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur. His efforts have been focused on ensuring that devotees face no difficulties during their sacred journey. The state government has implemented various safety measures, including setting up additional healthcare facilities, increasing police presence, and enhancing sanitation.

Given the large number of pilgrims, CM Yogi has directed authorities to provide effective crowd management, maintain law and order, and ensure smooth transportation. Special arrangements have been made for people with disabilities and senior citizens, with priority given to their safe transportation and access to the holy site.

UP Roadways Provides 4,500 Buses for Pilgrims

With such large crowds expected for the final day of the Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has deployed 4,500 buses to transport devotees to and from the Triveni Sangam. This extensive fleet of buses ensures that people are able to reach their destination without facing undue delays. UPSRTC has been working round-the-clock to accommodate the large influx of pilgrims, making transportation one of the key aspects of the event’s success.

Given the scale of the gathering, authorities have also introduced special traffic routes and restrictions to manage congestion in and around Prayagraj. Local police and traffic authorities have been working in coordination to ensure smooth movement of both vehicles and people.

The Grand Conclusion of the Maha Kumbh Mela

As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 reaches its grand conclusion, the formal closing ceremony will take place on February 27. The event will include the honoring of officials, employees, and institutions that contributed to the successful execution of the event. Certificates recognizing four world records, including those set by the Guinness World Records, will also be presented to the officials.

The official announcement of the Kumbh Mela’s closure will come from the Mela Officer, Vijay Kiran Anand, who has overseen the management of the event. The ceremony is expected to be attended by CM Yogi Adityanath, although details about his arrival were not confirmed as of the evening of February 25.

With over 65 crore devotees having visited the Kumbh Mela this year, the Maha Kumbh 2025 will be remembered as one of the most significant and well-managed religious gatherings in modern history. The event’s conclusion on Maha Shivaratri marks not just the end of a cultural phenomenon but also the spiritual journey of millions who participated in the sacred rituals.

As the crowds begin to disperse, the echoes of chants, prayers, and devotional songs will remain in the air, leaving behind a legacy of faith and spirituality. The Maha Kumbh Mela, though concluded for now, will continue to inspire devotion for generations to come.
